The official ElevenLabs app lets you create and export AI voiceovers on iPhone and Android, but some professional tools and subscription options still require the website.
What the ElevenLabs mobile app is designed to do
The ElevenLabs app for iPhone and Android is a mobile workspace for making AI voiceovers, not simply a shortcut to the ElevenLabs website. You can write a script, pick a voice, generate spoken audio and share the result with a video editor without opening a desktop browser. Its strongest use case is a short recording for social video, a presentation, an educational clip or a draft narration while you are away from your computer.
Do not confuse this creator app with ElevenReader, which focuses on listening to written material, or ElevenMusic, which is a separate music product. The main ElevenLabs mobile app covers several voice tools, but the web product still offers additional editing and production features. This guide is based on ElevenLabs' current help documents, not a hands-on test of the latest iOS or Android version.
Install the right app and sign in to your existing account
Start from ElevenLabs' official mobile page or the download links in its help center. According to the official compatibility information, the iPhone app requires iOS 17 or later, the iPad version requires iPadOS 17 or later, and Android requires version 7 or later. Check the publisher before installing so that you do not mistake a similarly named voice generator for the genuine product.
If you already use ElevenLabs on the web, sign in with the same account rather than creating an unrelated second account. ElevenLabs says your saved voices, relevant presets and subscription access are shared between the website and mobile apps. If you registered using Apple Sign-In, follow the platform's official sign-in instructions if your account does not appear on another device. Before buying anything, verify that the app is showing the correct account and its available credits.
Make your first voiceover from a short script
Begin with a single paragraph rather than a whole video. For example, write a 30-second product introduction with a natural opening, one useful point and a clear final sentence. In the mobile app, open Text to Speech, choose a suitable available voice, enter your text and select an available model and settings before generating. Listen to the result fully before exporting it; generating a clip consumes credits under the relevant model's rules.
A practical quality check is to include a number, a proper noun and a short pause in your test script. Listen for accent changes, mispronunciation and an unnatural ending. If the delivery is too fast, revise punctuation or the supported voice settings and generate a shorter new test. ElevenLabs describes expressive models, including Eleven v4, on its mobile pages; exact availability may evolve with the installed version and your plan.
Choose a voice and keep the mobile and web versions consistent
The mobile app provides access to the Voice Library and to voices associated with your account. Start by deciding on the intended listener: a calm educational explanation, a conversational short, a confident product demonstration or a character performance. A convincing voice for one of these may be distracting in another. Compare two short recordings made from the same script rather than changing the script and voice simultaneously.
If you began a project on the website, use the same account and check that your selected voice and presets are accessible on mobile. A voice's name does not guarantee identical delivery across models and settings; keep a record of the model, voice and approximate settings for repeatable work. Export a clip to CapCut, iMovie or a social-video workflow
ElevenLabs explicitly describes exporting mobile-generated audio into editors such as CapCut, iMovie and Instagram. Once you approve the narration, use the app's available share or export command, save or send the audio to the editing application, and place it on the video timeline. Import behavior can vary by phone, app version and editing software, so verify the actual file in the destination app instead of assuming the share sheet completed the handoff.
In your editor, align the spoken words with the visuals, lower background music under the narration and listen with both headphones and the phone speaker. Keep a named copy of the approved audio if your workflow permits it; a filename such as launch-intro-en-v02 makes the final version easier to identify. Instant Voice Cloning on mobile is not Professional Voice Cloning
According to ElevenLabs' mobile feature list, Instant Voice Cloning is available within the mobile app. It uses a short permitted voice sample to create a reusable voice identity. That does not make every recorded voice fair game: use your own voice or one you have the explicit legal right to reproduce, and respect the product's verification and usage requirements. Plan eligibility and available voice slots may affect what you can activate.
Professional Voice Cloning is a different, more involved feature and is listed by ElevenLabs among the tools currently reserved for its website. If your mobile clone fails to reproduce a distinctive accent or vocal texture, collecting more authorised recordings does not automatically mean the mobile app provides professional training. Open the web platform and review the Professional Voice Cloning requirements before paying for a higher tier solely for that purpose.
Voice Changer, Voice Isolator and Voice Design on a phone
The current mobile capability list also includes Voice Changer, which transforms the voice in an existing recording while trying to preserve the original performance, and Voice Isolator, which reduces background noise to make speech easier to use. Voice Design lets you create a voice from descriptive characteristics. These are different tasks: changing a voice is not the same as cleaning the original recording, and designing a voice is not the same as cloning a real person.
Choose the tool that fixes the actual problem. When your recording contains traffic or room noise, first assess whether Voice Isolator improves intelligibility without damaging speech. When you need a different vocal character but already have an authorised performance, consider Voice Changer. When no existing speaker is appropriate, consider Voice Design. Compare the output with your source before spending additional credits on a long project.
Which ElevenLabs tools still require the website?
A phone app does not replace the whole ElevenLabs platform. ElevenLabs' mobile documentation currently lists Professional Voice Cloning, Studio, Dubbing, Eleven Music and its Agents platform among features that are not available in this creator app. The mobile feature list also mentions image and video generation, but availability and the relevant controls can change as ElevenLabs updates the application.
If your project requires chapter-by-chapter audiobook editing, large Studio projects, advanced dubbing or a professional clone, move to the website rather than searching endlessly for missing tabs on your phone. Start a workflow on the surface that actually supports it. This distinction matters for purchasing decisions: a plan that includes a web feature does not necessarily make that feature usable inside the mobile app.
Free credits, paid plans and the real cost of experimenting
ElevenLabs' mobile help page advertises 10,000 free credits per month as a starting point, subject to the current offer and account eligibility. The specific mobile credits document says Text to Speech costs one credit per character in the usage context it describes; different models and tools can use different consumption rules. The reliable method is to check the credit estimate shown for the generation you are about to make, rather than projecting every product feature from a single headline number.
An existing subscription can be used across the website and mobile apps. Begin with a short voiceover that fits your current allowance, inspect the result and decide whether extra usage or a specific paid capability is needed. Before upgrading, compare current plan entitlements and monthly quotas on ElevenLabs' pricing page. Do not treat credits, characters and minutes as interchangeable measurements without checking the specific model and feature.
App Store billing and website billing are not identical
If you subscribe through Apple's App Store or Google Play, the store manages that subscription, including renewals and cancellation. ElevenLabs says that a subscription purchased through the mobile app cannot use the website's Pay As You Go credits option. By contrast, a website subscription is managed through ElevenLabs account settings. You can use an eligible plan across platforms, but the billing channel still matters.
Do not purchase a second subscription because you cannot see a cancellation button in the wrong place. To change from app-store billing to a website subscription, ElevenLabs instructs users to cancel the mobile subscription, let its billing period end and then subscribe through the website. Check the actual renewal date first. Deleting your ElevenLabs account or removing the app does not automatically cancel an app-store subscription.
Permissions and commercial-use rules still apply on mobile
Being able to export an AI voiceover from a phone does not by itself grant commercial rights. ElevenLabs' general guidance distinguishes its Free plan from eligible paid generations for commercial use, and other restrictions can apply to particular products or third-party voices. Review the applicable terms before using an exported clip in an advertisement, a monetized channel or a paid client deliverable.
For cloned voices, obtain meaningful permission from the speaker and do not use a generated recording to impersonate another person deceptively. Check the rights to your script, music and background footage as well. A subscription does not replace those permissions, and platform rules for services such as YouTube or Instagram are separate from the ElevenLabs licence.
Troubleshooting: missing voices, exports or credits
If your account looks empty, first verify the sign-in method and account identity, then check whether the app is updated and your device meets its minimum operating-system requirements. A missing advanced feature may be genuinely web-only rather than a failed installation. Compare the current mobile help-center list with the tool you are trying to use before reinstalling or paying for another plan.
If audio will not appear in CapCut or another editor, try saving the recording to a location your editor can access and import it from inside that editor. Confirm the clip plays before discarding the original. For unexplained credit changes, check the generation history and official credits guidance instead of assuming a failed export refunded the generation. If the issue persists, use ElevenLabs' official support channel and avoid sharing passwords or private account tokens.
A mobile-first production checklist that avoids wasted credits
Write a short script, choose the voice, create one test, listen critically, make a single targeted revision, export the approved clip and test it in its final destination. That simple loop is enough to decide whether the mobile app meets your daily workflow. For longer recordings, professional voice clones or advanced dubbing, move to the web product before planning a large batch of mobile generations.
The best reason to use ElevenLabs on a phone is convenience, not a promise that every desktop capability is there.
